I met Rasta Selecta Toy through Johnny, a pure-soul and kind-hearted Rasta brother. It was João Mbumbo, another Rasta brother, who guided me up the dark stairs to the fifth floor of the old building that crumbled on 5 de Outubro avenue, next to the former RTP installations, where Rasta songs could be heard in Lisbon.
We called it the headquarters of the Dreads, and there I was welcomed with a smile and a burning ganja joint. They said the herb had just arrived from Angola, just like me. I felt at home, surrounded by the energy and love emanating from that place.
Next to me, Janelo, the vocalist of Kussondulola, also enjoyed the reggae of Garnett Silk playing softly in the background. The aroma of the Marijuana mixed with the smell of African food. In many moments, I reflected serenely: this is what I want, the freedom and peace that only the Rastas know how to cultivate.
